On 19th January, a Polish Navy officer will take command of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) creating history in NATO. The outgoing Commander SNMCMG1, CDR s.g. Henrik Holck Rasmussen Royal Danish Navy will pass the command over to CDR Krzysztof Jan Rybak Polish Navy.
Polish Navy Commander-in-Chief on International Seapower Symposium.
Polish Navy Commander-in-Chief Vice Admiral Andrzej Karweta participated in Nineteenth International Seapower Symposium in Newport (Florida). The aim for this meeting was to seek ways to expand cooperative efforts beyond and across traditional regional maritime boundaries, as well as to bridge regional initiatives to build a network of partnership. The Symposium is one of the most important forums in the world as far as the future of navies is concerned.
On Monday, 14th of September, two polish minehunters: ORP „Mewa” and ORP „Flaming” came back to homeport Gdynia after operating on Gulf of Finland in MCM operation Open Spirit 2009. Polish ships found and destroyed ten mines with more than 3000 kilos of explosive material inside. The main focus of annually conducted operation is to dispose of sea mines and other ammunition resulting from previous wars.
CROWN EAGLE 2009 - submarine escape and rescue exercise
Exercise Crown Eagle 09 was being held in the Gulf of Gdansk from 8 – 11 September. A submarine escape and rescue exercise was planned and executed by Polish Navy, with participation of Swedish rescue ship HSwMS “Belos”. Crown Eagle 09 was the biggest rescue operation conducted by polish Navy this year.
